Turkish revolutions against Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government are having an important economic consequence in Majorca: the arrival of more tourists. This is what the manager of the Federació Hotelera de Mallorca (the entity that gathers all the different hoteliers in Majorca), Inma de Benito, has claimed in many of her recent appearances in the media. Thus, de Benito admits that there has been a reasonable increase in hotel reservations in Majorca as a consequence of the riots occurring in Istambul and Ankara.
The manager of the Federació Hotelera assures that both Turkey and Majorca are the favourite destinies for German tourists; this is why many of them decide to change their opinion and they precisely come to the island. This way, it is estimated that almost the 40% of the reservations have been cancelled in Istambul’s regions. This cancellations are also provoked because of the recommendations coming from the western countries and the Near East, which advise their citizens not to travel to the Eurasian region until the revolution stops.
But de Benito is not the only one who has noticed this change of plans in both German and British tourists. Tour operators also assure that they have not cancelled any of their Turkish vacation packages, but, at the same time, they also admit that they are not selling a single one to Istambul. Similarly, the researches for a hotel in Turkey have fallen down to a 89%.
The calm and security that Majorca guarantees is one of the main reasons why British and German tourists change their Turkish holidays for the Majorcan. Another cause is the similitude between Majorca’s landscapes, beaches and geography and the Turkish ones. Both regions oustand because of their clear sands and clean waters.
